The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel

When every frame of a film looks like a painting how could I not be inspired to paint it myself?

As a film-fan with a particular love for production design, naturally I love all that Wes Anderson creates. And, undoubtedly, The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of his best. The colours are gorgeous, the symmetry is perfect and the style is incomparable.

I’ve wanted to draw it for quite a while now and I think for ages I was just put off by the momentous amount of detail that goes into it, just with the enormity of the building itself. But, I eventually made time for it. It was just as time consuming as expected but completely worth it!

I love creating art inspired by my favourite film or TV but not everything has as such iconic imagery as this film does, so it was great to be able to recreate that in my own style.

This design is available to purchase in two different A4 prints, the simple outline version and the full colour version. You can also purchase bookmarks which show both versions. All of these products are printed on recycled paper. If you would like this design printed in any other format, get in touch and I’ll see what I can do!

This is drawn on A3 mixed media paper, firstly with pencil then outlined with fine liner pen. The colour was then layered on using watercolour paint.
